Technology always had a huge influence in the lives of people, whether in the personal or social aspect. It aids people in accomplishing daily tasks by manually assisting labor or enabling communication, both done through the use of technological devices. Things like cellphones and computers are perfect example of this, since they are forms of technology that make life easier; however, these devices still have their respective setbacks. With this, views regarding technology and social interaction varies per individual.
According to Mark Benjo Francisco, technology is somewhat a positive thing. Because it opens many opportunities for people to learn, to communicate, and to discover new things. However, I also see its negative side because when people use technology inappropriately, it can lead to problems and other bad things. For me, social interaction is something positive because it allows people like me to make friends and connect with other people. When we socialize, we share our ideas and experiences, learn from others, and become more comfortable with the people around us.
However, for Ivan Ordonia technology has changed how we connect with others. I see both improvements in communication and new challenges. Social interaction used to mostly happen face-to-face, through school, community events, or just talking to neighbors. Now, technology allows us to talk to friends anytime and anywhere through messaging, video calls, and social media.
One good change is that technology helps people stay connected. For example, when I’m busy or far from friends or family, I can still check in, share updates, and keep relationships strong. This is especially helpful for maintaining friendships that might fade otherwise. It also gives shy or introverted people a way to communicate more comfortably since online conversations can feel less intimidating than talking in person.
Next is Rubie Michelle Acosta who thinks that technology creates easier communication. Since, technology can connect me with my family and friends through social media application like messenger, telegram, and other communication apps. And also, social interaction teaches me how to communicate with other people through face-to-face. I listen to their rants and understand their feelings to build a good relationship with people. And when I interact with them it makes me feel like I’m bringing happiness.
Moving on, Gabriel Penetrante perspective on the issue is that technology tremendously made any type of acquiring knowledge in Universities way easier and less boring as sources can now be clicked in just seconds and various internet tools to use for a more convenient education.
Social Interaction is also an element that is used by every being on this earth, and seeing it effortlessly advance and progresses, I can definitely say that social interaction is way easier nowadays. Because it did not only evolve the ways but it also made our conversation more casual, fun, and wholesome all in one go.
Another opinion on this topic is from Jessica Bigueras who believes that technology has entirely altered the way we interact with one another. For example, I can now chat with my friends or even with relatives and family from other countries instantly, and that’s really impressive since such connections weren’t possible back then. On the other hand, I do notice that it can sometimes seem a bit crucial texting or even making a phone call simply can’t take the place of meeting face to face. You lose the little things, such as seeing someone’s facial expression or picking up on their energy in the room.
I also think that staying online all the time makes it difficult to concentrate, since notifications constantly appear and it’s easy to be distracted whether you’re having a conversation or working on studying. Social media has a twofold effect as well t helps me to stay in touch with my groups and allows me to share ideas, but at times it also makes situations more competitive or artificial since everyone always seems to be displaying their best life.
On the positive side, technology provides an opportunity for me to explore the way I express myself. It’s enjoyable and helps to build my confidence to post something creative or to share my opinions. At the same time, I believe we need to be careful since excessive online interaction can lead to feeling isolated from real-life friendships; just because you are connected doesn’t mean that you are close.
In my own case, I aim to use technology as a tool rather than as a substitute. Although I enjoy chatting online, I also make it a point to spend time meeting up with friends face to face. It’s important to maintain a balance so that interaction doesn’t end up being nothing but screens and emojis.
Finally, for Neil Andrei Calamba technology is like a double edged sword when it comes to the social aspect of people’s lives. Since, it enables new connections and opens up opportunities, but it can also lead to distraction. This causes people to become occupied to their phone most of the time, even when interacting with someone. Personally, I believe the important thing is to be aware, to combine both online and offline interactions, and to ensure that there is a balance between technology and social interactions. Because too much of something is always going to have its negative consequences.
All of the opinions mentioned above, shows how diverse the opinion and point of view in regards to the topic of technology and social interaction among Bachelor of Arts in English Language students. But one thing was common among them, majority mentioned how technology is both a blessing and a curse that brings good or bad things in a person’s life.
